Ken Krome

After starting to ride at the age of six at his mother's [Carolyn Krome] pony camp, Ken Krome has been involved with horses his whole life. As a junior rider, he made the long drive from his mother's farm in Maryland to train with George Morris. While studying at the University of Wyoming, where he went on a rodeo scholarship, Ken began judging in order to support himself. Currently he owns and operates K-2 Show Stables off of Persimmon Tree Farm in Westminster, Maryland, where he rides, trains, shows and coaches at competitions up and down the east coast.

As a junior rider, Ken won the Maryland Medal Final, placed second in the Virginia Medal Finals, and competed three times in the Medal/Maclay Finals. Since then, he has won the five year old International Jumper Futurity, placed in many Grand Prix competitions and ridden many horses to zone and national high score awards.

Ken is an FEI course designer and judge as well as an AHSA "R" judge and course designer. Ken has course designed across the country including such notable places as WEF, Devon, Kentucky, Vermont, Ocala, Legacy Cup, and Upperville. He is also a past president of the Maryland Horse Shows Association and a member of the NHJC Board of Governors and USEF Jumper Committee.

Carolyn Krome

Carolyn B. Krome was born and raised in the Reisterstown-Owings Mills area of Baltimore County.  She attended Franklin Senior High, St. Mary’s Seminary Junior College and the University of Maryland where she majored in Pre-Veterinary and Agronomy studies.  Carolyn is married to Morris L. Krome, a retired Maryland State Police Major, and they have two sons and three grand-daughters.

             Carolyn has spent most of her life around horses as a rider, trainer, care-giver, and instructor.  Her love of animals in general and horses in particular was influenced in her early years by her father, as well as Louise Cary and Clara Barton of the Baltimore County Humane Society, and her Aunt, Helen Gilbert, who was one of the founding members of the Howard County Hunt.  She was a member of FFA in high school and has been associated over the years with various 4-H and Pony Club activities.

            In 1968, she started Persimmon Tree Farm, a Hunter-Jumper Show Stable on her family’s farm in Owings Mills.  In 1986, the business was relocated to its current location on her and her husband’s 131 acre farm in Carroll County. .

            For the past forty years, Carolyn has managed her successful and highly rated hunter and jumper show stable, and has trained numerous show horses and instructed and coached many junior and amateur riders on the “A” show circuit.  She has attended numerous clinics and seminars dealing with the care and performance of horses, and has sought out and received the most knowledgeable advise, counsel, and instruction from experts such as George Morris, Jessica Ransenhousen, and Jack LeGoff.  Acting as a purchasing or sales agent for her clients, Carolyn regularly deals with some of the best known and highly regarded trainers, riders, and breeders in the United States and Canada.  Carolyn has presented and sponsored a number of clinics involving clinicians such as George Morris, Frank Madden, and Kip Rosenthal.   She is a member of many associations and has served as a United States Equestrian Federation Zone 3 Representative, and has also served on the board of the Maryland Horse Shows Association.

Carolyn was the 2006 recipient of the MHSA’s John A. Wagner Jr. Memorial Perpetual Trophy for her many contributions to the Maryland horse show community.
